What’s in a Name?

One of my kids has requested that I change my name.

They’ve always called me “Daddy.” There may have been some period of “Da-Da” back in the early days, but I actually don’t remember it. I’ve just always been “Daddy” since they were born.

But apparently it’s not cool for a teenager, or a pre-teen, to call their father “Daddy,” so now I’m “Dad.”

That’s going to take some getting used to.

  1. I’m with Sarah… “Dad” is WAY better than getting called by your first name. And it’s great that your kid came to you with a proper request instead of just calling you “Dad” and not explaining. It means your kids think you’re cool enough that they’ll at least keep you in the loop. ;)
