One of my kids has requested that I change my name.
They’ve always called me “Daddy.” There may have been some period of “Da-Da” back in the early days, but I actually don’t remember it. I’ve just always been “Daddy” since they were born.
But apparently it’s not cool for a teenager, or a pre-teen, to call their father “Daddy,” so now I’m “Dad.”
That’s going to take some getting used to.

Man… That’s tough. But hey, it could have been worst–he could have asked to call you by your first name.
I’m not looking forward to that day, but I know it’s coming. Maybe not with my daughters, but definitely w/ the boy.
yeah…I have to agree that it’s rough once they start to “grow up” but at least they’re still calling you Dad instead of your first name. That’s the worst when they get on the non-parent name game.
I’m with Sarah… “Dad” is WAY better than getting called by your first name. And it’s great that your kid came to you with a proper request instead of just calling you “Dad” and not explaining. It means your kids think you’re cool enough that they’ll at least keep you in the loop.
